The book of Hebrews is a very important book in the New Testament. It teaches that Christ is superior to angels, Moses and any other person. The book describes Christ in a beautiful and unique way that deserves our attention. Jesus is our priest forever. He has an unchangeable priesthood. "He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He lives to make intercession for them".
Hebrews then goes on to describe Jesus as holy, blamess, undefiled, separate from sinners, a priest who does not need daily to offer up sacrifices first for his own sins and then for the people because He is perfect.
What did we ever do to deserve such a special one as Jesus to sacrifice Himself for us and what do we do to show our gratitude? We don't deserve anything but punishment. Everything we receive from Him is because of God's Love and mercy. He is so good to us. His love is boundless and His mercy is endless.
Questions that should be asked by every modern day Christian tody are: Where did we ever get the idea that we are entitled to the privilege of choosing to worship whomever we want? Who told us that we could decide to use only a part of the Sabbath for God instead of all of it when God said that the whole day belonged to Him? If we decide those things for ourselves, are we making ourselves the "god" of our lives? If we are replacing God with other things, are we like the Israelites and have become like idol worshippers of other "gods"? Perhaps we don't call call them "gods" but does that make other things less idols if they repace our Heavenly Father. What does God call things that replace Him?
In Hebrews, we are challenged to move from elementary religious principles to holiness perfected and to not become sluggish in the Lord's work.
Do you ever take time and just meditate on what Jesus had done for you? Have you tried making a list of what you are doing for Jesus and seeing how you are measuring up? I have tried and there are days that I fail miserably. I am not perfect or blameless every day but my desire is that one day I will be found perfect before my Lord."
Father, I really want to serve you. I want to follow you every day. I need you, Lord, to direct my steps, direct my thoughts. Keep me near you. Help me as I.....
Share Your Love.
